Our past
Fondazione Bonomo, formerly named as “Ente per l’assistenza all’infanzia Lorenzo e Giacinta Bonomo” (“Lorenzo and Giacinta Bonomo Child Care Trust Fund”), has managed its activities in its facilities built near Castel Del Monte between 1958 and 1978.
The Foundation’s activities have benefited:
- Minors from economically disadvantaged families from Andria, Trani and Bari, or from families hit by grave mishaps;
- Nubile pregnant women and single mothers who would be aided by the “Opera Nazionale per la Protezione della Maternità ed Infanzia” (“National Authority for the Protection of Maternity and Childhood”);
- Extra-marital children awaiting for adoption or fostering status;
- Minors affected by light mental disabilities, assisted by Psychological-Medical-Pedagogical counselors within the Foundation.
In 1978 most of the facilities of the Foundation were donated to the local Provincial Administration of Bari, which turned them in Centro Ricerche Bonomo, a research center for the agri-food industry.
The facilities not donated to the Provincial Administration, including the masseria originally built in 1793, are what constitutes the Fondazione Bonomo today.
